人生最大的修养是包容。

它既不是懦弱也不是忍让,

而是察人之难,补人之短,扬人之长,谅人之过;

心若计较,处处都有怨言;

懂你的、不用解释;

Trip Mission :

buy crackers , tidbits and shop apparels/pants (if any nice one)..etc  compare with China/Manila

buy garlic peanuts ~ testing only *** Can eat during gambling time .... ahah

Always remember

Last but not least... let me just recap on some important information for those who intend to visit Batam (for the first timer):
- it's okay not to change too much rupiah (coz many places accept S$) But good to have some like say amounting to S$50/- or so
- do not keep all your $$$ in one spot
- In shopping centres/malls where credit cards payment is available, it's better to pay by credit card (coz conversion rate based on Singapore side)
- There's ONLY four 'CLEAN' massage centre (i.e. no xtra service) in Batam (choose wisely)
- Do not walk alone or even in pairs only on the street (best use transport)
- Do not take cab with NO meter (coz law allow them to stop and pick up some other customers - a scheme they called cab sharing) * best to book thru' hotel
- Do not touch a kid's head =  they r stupid
- Have spare slippers/footwear with you
- Do not point middle finger, they have the same meaning there!! hahah...

Shopping Malls
Shopping malls available mostly in the larger part of Batam like Nagoya, Waterfront City and Batam Centre. And the selection is quite many. The DC Mall, Lucky Plaza, Centre Point, Batam Centre Mall, Robinson & Ramayana, and the newly built Megamall (Hypermart) is some of the places you could visit. There is also the Ralph Lauren shop which comes with extremely low prices. The items are all genuine, because it is an authorized outlet of Ralph Lauren. You can bargain in many of those shopping places above, so bargaining skill wil be very useful although language will often be a challenge.

Shopping I Print E-mail
Centre Point Center Point
This is possibly the most popular with Singaporeans in Batam. Some hotels like Holiday Inn WaterFront City even provide special shuttle services to this mall for their guests! This shopping mall is considered small when compared to others such as DC Mall. But because of this, it is easier to navigate and it actually makes the place seem more inviting as well. It has an interesting mix of shops, ranging from supermarket to eateries and hair salons.

DC MallDC Mall
DC Mall is one of the newer and larger malls in Batam which is probably constructed to cater to the tourist crowd from Singapore. Unfortunately, due to the closure of the casinos in February 2005, its development seems to have been affected and thus, probably about 35% of the shops are unoccupied as of April 2005. Due to the lack of tourist and the large area, the whole shopping mall has a feeling of being "very vacant".

There are some large clothing shops there selling factory outlet clothings from the likes of Esprit, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Fila. I am not sure if they are real or fakes though....
The clothing are usually about less than US$10 per piece.

Mega Mall Mega Mall
The Mega Mall is a new and huge shopping centre located just next to Batam's main ferry terminal at Batam Centre. Besides big department stalls such as Matahari and Hypermart supermarket, there are also many retails shops and restaurants here. You can drop by when you are at the ferry terminal (Singapore-Batam).

Shopping II Print E-mail
Lucky Plaza Lucky Plaza
The Lucky Plaza shopping centre is conveniently located near to the main Jalan Imam Bonjol street at the Nagoya town at Batam. This shopping centre sells various stuff, computer, electronics, VCDs, DVDs etc. There is also a Matahari department stall here. Another nearby shopping centre is the Center Point shopping centre.  It's in the center. You can put them as a fixed sign/post then going around the area to find other stuff.Clothes, make up, shoes but it's a good place to buy your daily needs.
as much as you want

panbill MallPanbil Mall
This is a multi department store where you could find almost everything here. As it is also near the Industrial estates, the shoppers are usually people working in the nearby factory. As going to town in Nagoya is quite far, this department store is very convenient to the workers as they stay at their dormitories nearby. You can be assured that the price here are of Indonesian price tag. Some of the smaller stores are bargainable while the department store like Ramayana are fixed price.

GelaelGelael
Gelael is a building that consist of supermarkets on the ground floor and restaurants on the 2nd floor. Here's where the local shop for groceries. Prices are reasonably cheap here if you're looking for some groceries. There's 2 restaurants here; KFC and Pizza hut. KFC seems to have it's way here while Pizza hut is alway empty. I guess the Indonesian are not into pizza here.

Shopping malls in Batam Print E-mail

  • Mega Mall Batam Centre. This shooping centre located in Batam Central Business District. Could be reach directly from International Ferry Terminal. Buying clothings is one of the cheapest means of shopping here in Batam. The branded goods here are reasonable cheap, which is normally made from Bandung as copy goods.
  • Robinson & Ramayana. It is a real Indonesian shopping mall. Over here, you can find some local brands with good designs at very reasonable prices. Robinson especially houses a really huge department store on its ground level.
  • DC Mall, a large mall. It is one of the newer and larger mall in Batam which is probably constructed to cater to the tourist crowd from Singapore.
  • Lucky Plaza. Shop till you Drop. It is located in the center. It is a good place to buy your daily needs such as clothes, make-up accessories, shoes etc.
  • Panbil Mall. This is a multi department store where you could find almost everything here. As it is also near the Industrial estates, the shoppers are usually people working in the nearby factory.
  • Gelael. It is a building that consist of supermarkets on the ground floor and restaurants on the 2nd floor. Here's where the local shop for groceries. Prices are reasonably cheap here if you're looking for some groceries. There's 2 restaurants here; KFC, McDonalds and Pizza hut.
  • Nagoya Hill is the biggest mall in Batam and hosted the Matahari departmental store. You can catch a movie at the Studio 21 cineplex here for Rp 25.000.

I heard Batam has de go-kart that's quite fun? they do have nightlife there too rite?

yeah, I had a go at it...it cost around S$15 for a few rounds on the track. The track is nothing spectacular cos' theres no slope and such. However, the staff are pretty nice and are very attentive to your safety.

i remember seeing an article in Her World magazine around 2 years back which is a write up on the best spas in Batam.
anyway, can some kind souls recommend me good spas in Batam that accept both male and female customers? I'll be going there next weekend with my SO.
I heard there's a A&W there? may is it???
may i know where is the shop that i can get Polo Ralph???

I believe that one of the spas that Her World recommend was Martha Tilar... They have 2 outlets i think in Batam.. One in Nagoya.. i think.. the other i am not v sure... Been to this spa twice... Their services are not bad... One spa package (scrub, steam, massage) cost around SGD30-40... Quite cheap... But u may have some communication problems.. All the staff there do no understand English.. I was lucky cos one of my colleague (she's the one who recommend us there) is an Indonesia & she goes to Batam frequently as she has business there... so she is the one who does the bookings n communications for us.. This Martha Tilar is quite popular in Indonesia.. i heard from my colleague that they have chain all over Indonesia.. But recently we switched places already.. My colleague brought us to a new spa that is not as established or as big as Martha Tilar but service wise & massage skills is comparable to Martha Tilar.. Another thing about this new spa is it is cheaper as well & not as crowded as Martha Tilar..
the name of the new spa is called Belle... BUt not sure of the contact n name.. Think u better go try Martha Tilar 1st..

my trip to Batam wasn't that bad. in fact, i kinda enjoyed it  that place can be boring coz of the limited shopping grounds but the bras there are cheap! hehe anyways, i stayed at Holiday Inn resort and it was great! it's like one of the best resorts over there compared to those that i've seen, even my friend couldn't help but envied mine coz she stayed in some other resorts. it has all the facilities, including a spa and a good pool to swim in. they have seafood buffet in the night as well and it's really fresh. the spa and massages won't disappoint you either. great place to visit if you're just planning to relax and get away from the busy city life. however, one let down was the prices there at Holiday Inn is a bit too costly, but it was rather cheap for me then coz my mummy's credit card had a promotion :) for me, i don't mind going there again hehe

I just came back from HolidayInn Batam.
so crowded!!! all Singaporeans... gosh.

I must say i was quite disappointed with the Teatree Spa. I had expected a lot since it just garnered the Best Indonesian Spa Award recently. But the massage felt like a rush job (cos there were too many people waiting) and it was in a non-air conditioned room. Even though there's a ceiling fan, it felt kinda warm. The room next door was interconnected & i could hear the people talking next door :blah:
And there were at least 3 motorbikes & 1 cars that drove past. I could hear their engines raving away. Talk about a relaxing spa experience..
oh, there's a Polo shop at Holiday Inn. albeit a little small. There's a bigger one at the ferry terminal. & i think they are always having sale..
I went to A&W at Diamond City Mall. I heard it's the newest mall. It's something like Holiday Plaza in JB, nothing much to shop, except maybe for cheap snacks & toileteries at the SUpermarket.

Yes, yes I was there over the weekend. :blah: I was quite bored out and the only consolation was that I found Naraya bags at DC Mall and the seafood dinner was superb! :bliss: Recommended to go 933 Golden Prawn restaurant for its live seafood.
I went to centrepoint as well, similar to Holiday PLaza in JB. I doubt I would go Batam in the near future. JB is much better in terms of shopping

hurmpfz...
sad to hear that you had not enjoyed the spa experience. maybe it was due to the fact that there were lots of people in queue. the other time i went, it was quite empty. my massage was free coz of some tie-up promotion with Citibank. even so, they never failed to make me feel good. hence, i got a long job done and it was quiet and relaxing. the weather was fine too coz it had rained before. i left the place feeling very satisfied with the service and relaxed. :) maybe you should try visiting it during a non peak period hehe

Hey gals,  When i was in Batam, i travelled around in taxi. They are safe but charge expensively. They don't charge you as per their meter, its usually one flat rate. Example: Ferry terminal - city $10sin nett...taxi fares are expensive but the only form of transport you can find there. Unless you planning to rent a car or bike. yup, money can be exchange at the ferry terminal there.
I been to Harris twice and they have very nice people there. The staff are nice and friendly and so eager to help. Some of the staff can still remember us after a one year gap :thump:

e-raine, i do not know how much does the jetski, banana boat and go-kart cost cause everytime i went, its more like a slack, eat and relax trip for me. I'm too lazy to engage in the waterspots =p
The massage was too painful for me..i tried the indonesian massage but it was ok for my SO. Depends on individual i guess. Remember to ask for the 20% discount when you go for the spa/ massage.
you can ask Harris's staff to recommend on where to eat and shop. They should be able to give a better guide.

yeah... i'm back from my batam trip... it's totally FUN. :thump:

The activities we engaged in:
Watersports:
- Banana Boat ($8/pax) (I'm totally in love with this banana boat fun... it's super exciting but left me with many injuries e.g. neckache, thigh ache (think i kena kicked), and cuts on fingers cause I pulled too hard...
- Parasailing ($20/pax... actually cost $25 but we've lots of ppl so we bargained to $20)... I don't find it exactly fun up there... but still i'm scared...
Location: just opp. Harris Resort.

Resorts faciliities:
- I went to the resort swimming pool for 3 days... can play water polo or water basketball there... there's also a giant jacuzzi (not really very fantastic but good for relaxing)
- In-house massage (I tried indonesian massage which I heard is the mildest but still too painful for me) for those who can tahan pain can try sports massage or shiatsu massage (most painful)
- Bowling - Not bad for passing free time, cheap
- Billiard - Not bad for passing free time, don't know price
- Go-Kart - This is very fun but scary (IMO), I'm a lousy driver so I spinned twice whilst driving and I bumped into my friends thrice (feels very daytona). There's 1-for-1 promotion for Go-Kart now... Very worth it... $17 only.
- TV has alot of channels e.g. channel 8, i, u, 5, espn, hbo, etc

Foodies:
- Went 555 Golden Prawn... I think all of us kena chopped like carrots... But the food is very fresh... Should have went to the other side (just opp) to tried the seafood instead. (Total damage: $100 for a dinner for 7 ppl, not including cab fare which cost $30/return trip X 2cabs, distance: 45mins)
- Also ate at Sunset Restaurant (Harris does provide free transport to Sunset restaurant). Good and cheap food... (Total damage: $45 for 7 ppl meal)
- Harris in-house restaurant serves good italian food as well but it's rather steep. Anyway just try it.

Shopping Centre:
We didn't go as far as Batam Center to shop as we didn't have the time to. So we took cab to CentrePoint and lucky plaza (sounds like orchard road  ) to walk, shop and eat. We bought durian and smuggled durian back to hotel  actually nothing much to shop also...

Harris staff (like what other cotters says) are very hospitable and informative. Thumbs up for their service.

I rate: 4/5 for Harris
Any more questions, do feel free to ask me... :flower:

Hi moidainty, holiday inn and harris resort are actually a distance away even though its considered within walking distance. By the time you walk from holiday inn to the watersports area, you would be dead beat.

I would suggest you take up the watersports on the day you are at Harris since they are like stone throw away. Remember to put on lots of sunblock. The weather at batam is worse then Singapore =)

psyence, are you staying overnight?

If you are staying overnight, i think u can do watersports (Jetski, banana boat etc) when u reach there in the day, massage at night (provided that u managed to book the slot). Next day morning go for go-kart... go early to avoid crowd
hi cutepuppy... perhaps you can buy mandi lulur and other toiletries... the toiletries there are cheap... and also their local tidbits... HTH ;) I didn't really shop much when I was there... had fully-engaged myself in the watersports  so can't really give comments on shopping.

xbliss... wow your package is cheap... :thump: i paid 140 bucks (not incl tax) for 3D2N... anyway their pizza is good...

Yes, the cab fare rate is actually stated at the hotel entrance. As for seafood, you can try the 933 golden prawn seafood restaurant. I heard from my friend that it's good. i headed to the wrong seafood restaurant (555 golden prawn, as it was just beside 933 golden prawn) when I was there. :whip: But the one way cab fare alone cost 15 and 2-way will be 30.
Another good place to have seafood is at the sunset restaurant, free shuttle bus from harris resort. Though have not heard any raves about that restaurant, but personally feel that the food is good.
You can try going to Nagoya for shopping. I heard it's the town area. Had not been there also.

Stayed in Harris before. It's really quite a distance from town. Took us about half an hour to reach town. Cost of taxi was 20 bucks per 3 hrs.
Room not too bad though.
The hotel is quite near a cable-ski park though. If you have a spare day, can go try. It's quite fun but really very very tiring. I ached for 2 weeks straight and still could not get onto the ski standing. Can see the website..i think its www.cable-ski.com

TIA! :4

i did my spa treatment during my stay in Holiday Inn hotel , enjoyed my session as it was so relaxing that i snoozed off...! They cater to both men and women. Can either charge it to your room acct , or pay in cash at the spa reception SGD / Ruppiah both accepted. Best to make appt beforehand. I know Harris Resort/ Turi Beach also has Spa services, you might want to check it out. Anyways , for hotel spas , prices will be quoted in mostly SGD and they're not any much cheaper than spore because still have to bare in mind that most of these spas are owned by sporeans... :smash:

There are also some pretty well know spa chain salons in the batam city area that alot of spore tai tai often go to , but i can't rem the shop name now (can anyone help on this? it was mentioned before in her world mag ) Appointments compulsory as they are often fully booked. Prices in Ruppiahs , much cheaper than hotels naturally and they treat you like a royalty.

For most shopping like tourist shops , CC will be accepted but still best to have some SGD & Ruppiah with you for tipping or small buys from the locals.

The massage there is very good, and cheap too! The last time i did my 2 hour massage there for less than $20 sgd. Usually when i go there, i will buy alot of tidbits, chips and crackers back. There is one shop at harbourbay jetty which sells really fresh crackers. Around sgd $2 for one big packet.

Hi! Need help with purchasing of ferry terminal tickets. I already made a booking at Holiday Inn. Should I be booking my ferry tickets to Waterfront City Ferry Terminal or Batam Centre?

Minghui78
11-07-2010, 10:31 PM
I think its call Batam Centre and Harbourbay right? Usually i will take the ferry from singapore to batam harbourbay. But even if you choose batam centre, it doesn't make much of a difference as its only 15 minutes drive from either one of the ferry terminal. So which is to say, whichever harbour you alight in batam, you will still be able to go to your hotel, the distance is not very far.

It is very unsafe to travel there alone. Their traffic there is very bad, the roads are very dim, so please do not try to go there yourself. My cousin was molested by a guy at night when they went out for dinner at one of the food centre.

Ya, you have to get someone you know to pick you up from the jetty. Even though getting a cab there is very easy, but you don't know those cabbies at all. You wouldn't know where they will drive you to. Its better to go in a group.

Hi lovelies,
I and SO intend to go to Batam from the 5th to 7th Aug (3D2N). the last time we went there, we stayed at Harris Resort (think it was at the sekupang port) and it was great and relaxing but we could not shop much as it was not near any shopping malls, hence we just lazed around the swimming pool and did indoor activities like bowling and playing pool.

We would like to some shopping and sightseeing now hence decided to get a nice clean and pleasant hotel near the town area..Please advice which of the following shortlisted hotels provided you guys with a good experience and is convenient in terms of shopping and seafood and massage..
Panorama Regency
Sijori Resort
Formosa Hotel
Crown Vista Hotel
Mercure Hotel
Nagoya Plaza Hotel
Goodway Hotel
Golden View Hotel
Novotel Hotel
Hotel Harmoni
Waterfront Hotels - Holiday Inn

I would recommend Goodway or Golden View ba... Harmoni is more towards budget kind... Holiday Inn is nice... but too far for shopping area... Sijori is not bad too. Again, some distance to Shopping Mall. The rest I never stay before. So wouldn't really know.

Well Harris is a good choice. However have you tried Holiday Inn itself? It's in a class of it own and they do have good promotions and packages often. Their spa is something "outdoor" and beats Harris hands down. Environment, "the feel", service, rooms, spa and etc is better then harris (yes, holiday inn is expensive but well, you pay for what you get)

Skip Golden Prawn and head over to Kampung Nongsa, there's 3 diff seafood restaurants there(Take Note: Kampung Nongsa and Nongsa itself is different although they are only a few mins drive away, the "kelong restaurant" in Nongsa is expensive and food's so-so") All the 3 restaurants in Kampung Nongsa are built directly above the beach with BEAUTIFUL scenery during sunset, shockingly cheap, nice food, nice environment. Another great place for seafood will be the "kelong restaurant" in Barelang Jembatan Tiga(After the 3rd Barelang Bridge), if choosing the fish, crab, sotong before you actually order them is your thing, then visit this place. It's something like golden prawn, however with way better n cheaper price, better food and better scenery too ;)

Why I say skip Golden Prawn? It's too commercialized, too expensive, and the food.. is in no way better then other cheaper options, in fact holds no standard compared to other restaurants. I was based in Batam before for abt 6mths and found out that Golden Prawn actually gives 20% commision or at least Rp 50,000 to any taxi driver, guides who recommend and bring their guest to golden prawn. Look ard when you're in Golden Prawn and you'll realise that 90% of the patrons are Singaporeans/Malaysians or Indonesian tourist from other cities. The local Batam-based Indonesians will never eat/dine at Golden Prawn unless they're entertaining clients and have to impress.

If you're planning to just have a short getaway and destress (without spending much), I will actually advice you to stay in Amir Hotel which is just 3-5mins walk from Harbourbay Ferry Terminal, room is comfortable and clean, i'll say it's better then Harris in fact ;) for only Rp 310,000 a night. For spa/massage, there's a "Sports Massage" which is like only a 5mins drive from Amir Hotel. They cater to both male/female and you can actually request for a "couple room" if you're with your partner and they do have spa and scrubs too. It's seriously cheap, no hanky panky, GOOD massage (in fact most batam indonesians recommends it and say that it's the best place for a massage) and I myself think it's better then the spas/massages in hotels like harris, I hotel, pacific, planet hotel.

If you guys do not know, there is also a "traditional spa" for us females too! They're normally in salons cum spa. The traditional spa packet actually consist of body scrub, traditional indonesian massage, ratus(it's a treatment/therapy to "clean & tighten" our "Miss V", which actually is effective and you'll feel the difference) and facial. Don't do it in the salons/spas in Nagoya Hill or Mega Mall as they're expensive, compared to the other salons in "non-touristy" areas such as Jodoh, *** Panas n etc. If my memory serves me well, it cost only about Rp350,000 at one of the "salon spa" in *** Panas.

Back to food, before I was based in Batam, I always find the roadside cafes or "warung" unhygienic with lousy food n etc. However, after being based in Batam and coaxed by my colleagues and friends, I tried eating in "warung" and was hooked on them after that! The food are seriously delicious and I've never got food poisoning or whatsoever eating in the "warung". They're freakin cheap. Honestly, do try eating at the warungs. Ask the locals or the taxi driver if you have one for their recommendations.

I do recommend the "Sop Kambing" or mutton soup at Penuin, behind Harmoni Apartment(Do take note that harmoni apartment and hotel harmoni is diff)

Bakso at "bakso gunung" which is in btw batam centre ferry terminal and mega mall, it's actually a "pick-up" van and parked at the end of the road in btw mega mall and batam centre ferry terminal.

And if you guys are planning to actually stay in Harris which is located in Marina City or Batam View in Nongsa which is far away from Nagoya and you actually have plans to visit Nagoya Hill, Mega Mall or the "town" itself, I actually recommend you guys to "rent" a car+driver rather then using taxis, be it the hotel's taxi or roadside taxi. Taxi ride from Marina City or Nongsa to Nagoya/Batam Centre may cost from Rp 80k - 100k for one way, to and fro normally cost Rp 150k - Rp 200k or even more.

It's better if you rent or "sewa" a car + driver which normally cost about Rp 200k - Rp 300k for a decent comfortable car such as Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic or Honda Accord. If you're for luxury, you can rent a brand new Toyota Fortuner or Honda Jazz n the likes for Rp 350k - Rp 600k with the driver itself. Those prices are for a 12 hour rental/booking. You're free to go anywhere you like, the driver can recommend you the BEST places for shopping, eating, massages or whatever you're thinking of and he can help you negotiate prices too and ensure that you won't get "cheated" or pay more then you should. Practically they're like you're PA. Just be nice to them, if you eat seafood, invite them to eat together, maybe buy a pack of ciggarettes(it's like only S$1.50 a pack?), be polite and humble and the driver will take good care of you! Do pm me if you need contacts.

hi! im staying at turi beach resort..cant decide to go kampung nongsa/the kelong for seafood..is the kelong very far away? actually im looking more to have chilli crabs/gong gong those sort sow which is better?

& regarding the sports massage place..do you know how much they're couple spa packages are cause no price on the web. my fren recommended me this place cause the Foot Relexology at Batam Centre she says not bad. have you heard of it?

and is nagoya worth going..or should i just go to megamall..cause dun wanna spend too much on cab fare. also, you know where to get the famed kueh lapis?

dolphin.precious
28-09-2010, 09:38 AM
Hi, I think the kelong has good seafood n hot plate beef/beancurd. U should give it a try. I'm not so sure where ur resort is so don't know if its nearby. But batam is quite small. U can check with the resort staff for directions, they are very friendly. If not within comfortable working distance, then share cab.

If u want to do more shopping, then head to megamall. If u want to relax, go for massage, supermarket shopping, buy scented candles, eat A&W, then go nagoya. There are many massage parlours (clean ones) around nagoya, within a 5mins walking radius.

I love to go there for massage. Seafood is very cheap too. The supermarket has got lots of tidbits to buy, i always end up buying so many packets of tidbits back to singapore.

Its definitely not safe for 2 girls to go batam. I have been there before and that was with 3 other girls of mine. One of my friend was being molested along the road when we went out for dinner one night. Please get one guy friend to go along with you girls. At least when the people there see you with one guy, they will not dare to try to be funny.

Been in harris before... staying with the resort is ok...
But jus becareful when u are at Nagoya town.
Transport directly to the malls. Mall are safe. Jus stay together. we are also 2 ladies.
But don't attempt the streets. Stay within the mall or resort or take a tour.
Transport is not easy there and bargain if u take any taxis.

The spa is good. go for 3 hours. 1 1/2 hours is too short, not enough.
The cabana is by the "beach". Nice n big, but not as new as the trendy wing.
different feel. So depending on *** u prefer.

Harris - all facilities - Spa/bowling n good to laze....
But no shopping. Take the shuttle to Nagoya Hills.

Shopping and town - then ihotel, but no resort getaway feel...

Hi, what is there to do near turi beach resort (nongsapura area)? like, are there any malls, or cheap massage places (non hotel kind) and non hotel restaurants/ eating places around the area?

There is really nothing to shop over at their malls. I feel that only the massage there is worth going for..and the seafood is good and cheap.

any recommendations of spa massage places? i would like it to be lika a spa, as in with the spa ambience, meaning it's clean and each bed in individual room, best with private bath soak thing kind.. not some random massage shop with the beds all on the floor with curtian seperators..

some what like those you find in sg.. of cos im not expecting it to be $20 for 2 hour sort but maybe $60 for 2 hours? meaning, almost singapore spa standard but lower price..

from what i read in the past few pages and other forums, u can get authentic kueh lapis from the hotel (harris) or nagoya mall.
if u get from the hotel, can pay in SGD.
so probably just need to change 50SGD to rupiah for abit of shopping at the mall or misc meals/stuffs.

I just came back from Batam for a short trip getaway there. Went to this place to massage and its fantastic. Costs me only $24 sgd for a 2 hours traditional massage. Check out this place, its clean and not sleazy at all. Address: Komplek Penuin Centre Blok K No 2-4 Tel:+62778423268 Call up for reservation as they are fully booked up at times. As for fresh peanuts, layer cake or any tidbits which you will like to get, there is this shop at the ferry terminal harbourbay- Food Trading Centre No 33-34. The tidbits they are selling are very fresh, i love their garlic peanuts the most.

Piece of advice.

If you are going town (Nagoya), do carry your cash with you as closely and not swinging around. There are countless bikes there if you were to step out of the shopping mall. Snatching is common there. Do be careful.
Other than town, resorts far away from town are perfectly fine. ;)waxie24

Hi all,

My frens and I are thinking to go Batam for 3 days 2 nights, is it wise to stay at 2 diff hotels?
e.g 1 night Turi Beach Resort, 1 night at the hotel in town.

Because we are planning some outdoor/seasports like go kart, paintball for the first day while shopping, movie and massage at town for the following days, and would like to save the hassle of taking taxi.
any advice?

many many thanks! :)

933 is also known as Golden Prawn...
You may want to try Wey Wey which I think is at harbourbay...
Delima (Which is near Harris/Holiday Inn area) is too far from ihotel...

Since you staying Harris, the only seafood is Delima, which is walking distance... But will advise you to take cab instead especially in the night...
Depending on individual taste, but I think Delima is more fresh than 933 =D

Wey Wey is at Harbourbay... Another port like Waterfront/Sekupang etc... Nearest resort I think is Tempang Senat or what... Not sure of it... But if traveling from Harris, is some distance though... Just not as far as Nagoya/933

i went to Batam for a day trip on 11th dec for spa n some shopping.

booked the spa session with eska wellness. I like the part that they provide 2 way transport. The driver were nice and friendly. But i felt that the spa sessions are rather short.

i took the 1hr massage+30mins body scrub+ aromatherapy floral jacuzzi+15 mins v spa ratus+hair creambath(as stated in their website).

the body massage ended in less than 45mins, the scrub is good but i guess it is just a mere 15mins and the floral jacuzzi are just a normal bath, not even a jacuzzi (kinda not worth taking it). V spa ratus are just 5mins. I felt the whole session a rush. The hair creambath were good though.

will try the other spa place the next time. does anyone here has the contact for everyday massage n spa?

my friends showed me other links for the spa at batam. perhaps can try one of this the next time.

The cabfare there is really cheap, less than sgd $6 maybe. But you have to make sure that they don't cheat you, once you get into the cab, you have to see that the driver has a working meter on. Seafood for two pax should costs around sgd $50 to $70 or even less depending on what you order.

littlepooh
19-12-2010, 06:12 PM
Prev years when i wnet batam, they dont use meter! They only have a fixed price list (either travelling from hotels / shoppign ctrs).
For eg, from this shopping ctr, u wanna go Golden Prawn is $xxx,
go HArbourFront is $xxx and so on. Their 'plcs of interest" is only that limited, so the list is covers most places.

if u hail a cab urslf, the price is to be agreed between pax and driver.. :blah:

HerNie87: There's longer duration spa from Eska. But was wondering, how come they provide 2-way transport? I used them before, and don't have 2-way transport... Ok. Should say, 1-way have to pay... and the other is free if total amount spent on their end is 800k...

sassification: I'm a dude =X Anyway, depending on what you had... I had fried prawn, butter crab, steam fish, chicken wing, kang kong, and 1 dunoe what vege for 2 pax, and total cost about 40-50 sgd...

Prawn, crab and fish is quite fresh... Chicken wing is smaller than I thought... vege so so...

PS: From Harris to Delima should be less than 30k for 2 pax... And journey about 5-10mins only. But usually I will pay 50k instead, and they will be 'happy' to drive you there. Sometimes the driver will even 'protect' you by staying around, or even tell the boss to charge you cheaper =)

littlepooh: frankly speaking, till now I nvr see a cab with meter on... 99.999999% are spoilt or not in use de.. Just use 50k for 15mins ride as a guage... and mostly you won't kanna 'chop'. For me I felt that we go there enjoy... So 'safety' is best... So wouldn't mind pay slightly more... Just to have 'safety'... Who knows the driver due to one pay less, bring you to some ulu place, and rob you...

Hmm... Batam ar... As long as not alone, should be 'safe'. Try engage cab from hotel instead... And take the same cab back to hotel after finish.... Eg like you from harris want go delima, inform the hotel staff that you want 2 trip... So that the driver will come back for you one hour or what later... or if he got nothing on, will sit there wait for you too...

That time I went 933, i treat the driver to eat... but he don't want... So he just sit there drink, while we eating... Then got discount *** :P

Usually either leave passport in safe, or with the receptionist staff...

For Kueh Lapis wise, can go to Nagoya... There's a few stalls over there, which sells not bad Kueh Lapis...

Seafood wise can either take cab to Wey Wey (Harbour Bay) 933 Golden Prawn or 555 Restaurant. If lazy, can walk to A1 Foodcourt (Nagoya).

Not safe to dress up too skimpily when you go batam. The place is not that safe, unless you are only gonna be staying and moving around in your hotel. When you head out to the streets the malay men will all whistle and look at you in your shorts, and make you feel so awkward. I would advice you to wear something not so revealing.

Alot in fact! Depending on which shop you go to, some shops do sell really very fresh crackers, garlic peanuts and so on. The shop which i always go to is at the ferry terminal at batam harbour bay. Its just maybe about 5 minutes walk away from the arrival hall. The name of the shop is call Food Trading Centre. The ladies there are quite nice and friendly, the best part is they will let you try alot of their tidbits and see which one you like. Don't forget to bargain if you are getting more than 4 packets , thats what i always do. :)

Very popular with Singapore Chinese, you can expect a good repertoire of Chinese songs here. To the extent of Hokkien songs too as Singapore Chinese are predominantly Hokkien. Instead of a fishtank, there is a bench here.
Pujasera A1
The locals like to hang out in places like this which they normally called "santai" which means relaxing. Besides a place to eat, here's also the place where the locals drink. I mean real drinking of alcohol. You will noticed many beer girls coming to your tables to ask you drink beer. If you drink beer and you're a man alone or with a bunch of guys. These girls could sit next to you to have a conversational companion. They are not hookers but just selling their beer products. So, don't get the wrong idea.

Mermaid Pub
Batam has many nightlife and it starts in the day. Like the karaoke lounges starts from 2pm till late 3 am. Discotech however starts from 7 pm till 5 am. But I wouldn't recommend the discos as it goes on with techno music and it's filled with drug pusher. Also you have to be careful as some of the pushers are undercover cops.
Barong Karaoke
Located at Puri Garden hotel, Barong Karaoke are frequently visited by Singaporeans and other foreigners. Happy hour start from 5 pm till 8 pm. And the music rocks till the early morning. Hehehe....!! Still in Puri Garden Hotel, you can also check out Amazon cafe which has a live band. These bands are normally from Bandung and they played reasonably well.
Hotel Merlion
Mermaid Karaoke Lounge was such a huge lounge which makes it possible to dance for the audience ; ) with several KTV rooms. We chose the open lounge of course ; ) This lounge also has both a vast drinks menu and song repertoire.
